My father's name was Billy Rowden, born in Iberia, MO. His father's name was Redus Rowden who married Ruth (Groves) Rowden. They had 2 children, Billy Rowden and Coleen Graves. I would love to know more about the Rowden's. I have researched and cannot find much at all.

Hello, I am just wondering if anyone has any information on Helen M Rowden born in 1948. My grandmother (now deceased 2013) Sheila A Rowden born in 1944 and her were sisters and shared a father. I was born Carol Rowden. My Grand Mother's Family were Rowden from St. Thomas in Devon. The other side of her family were Knott also from St. Thomas In Devon. My Grandmother was Mary Susan Rowden. Her parents were Caroline Knott and George Rowden. There were a huge amount of Rowden's in St. Thomas around 1868 when Mary Susan was born and during the 1900's onwards which I've found out on Ancestry. They married into a family called Maunder. My Grandmother had two brothers. Samuel and William. I'd be so grateful for any information. Samuel I know eventually moved to South Wales.

It appears that I am the 9th great granddaughter of Christopher Rowden (1631 - 1663) through my 3rd great grandmother Anne Rowden (b1800). Hello II am Carol Rowden. Daughter of Jack Rowden and Grand Daughter of Mary Susan Rowden. I believe that some of the information about them on here may be incorrect. Mary Susan never named the Father of her two children. Neither of them knew. They were both born in St. Thomas Devon. Neither were born in a Workhouse. My Father went into a workhouse when he was four years old because he told me that he remembered Mary Susan walking with both children one in each hand to the workhouse. It was have been that Mary Susan was in the workhouse before either child was born, came out, got pregnant, had both children and then was put, and I used the word put, back in because her family turned their backs on her. There are stories of who the Father might have been but they are only stories. She did re-marry and moved to South Wales, to a widower who had three children, where she later died. My Dad never recovered from her death. Emily sadly died at the age of 27. I know that's true because my Dad was with her when she died. She had two children. Father unknown. One child was adopted and taken to Canada. I would be so grateful if anyone knows anything about that branch of the family. I'm a Author by the way. I write Mysteries and Thrillers.

Hi, I’m Anita, grand daughter of Annie (Nancy) Winifred Sostman (born 1912) nee Rowden (or so I thought) but in fact Selling, daughter of Annie Eliza Taylor and Frederick Nippard Rowden (line), (Sellen being Fred Nippard’s mother’s name). I have found out that my grandmother was registered at birth in the name of Selling and have confirmed this by ordering a new birth certificate and wonder why and does anyone know more? I have recently learned that Selling was crossed out when she went for her first job and Rowden written in its place however the boss wouldn’t accept it. It hasn’t been found but we have seen a new birth certificate obtained for her to claim her state pension with Rowden on it. I have always been told she was the first child of Frederick Nippard Rowden and Annie Eliza Taylor (Fred’s second relationship) and certainly looks like her siblings and was brought up by Fred, but I note from Kirsty’s entry on another site and the Horningsham descendant pedigree, that my grandmother is not recorded. Is anybody aware of a different father or was it just down to illegitimacy at the time as the birth certificate reads Frederick Selling and not Frederick Nippard Rowden and Annie is on the certificate as Annie Eliza Selling nee Taylor. Trying to find information on my great grandmothers family. As far as I can tell my great grandmothers name is Lizzie (possible Elizzie) Crawford, she also went by Lizzie Rowden. Her father was Colman Crawford and her mother Mary Rowden. I do not know if Mary was a first or middle name. I believe she was born in Tedas or Tennessee around 1882 but that is it that I can find. (He later adopted the Ramsey surname, which was passed onto me.) I have found their marriage certificate from 1881, which lists her name as Sarah Jane Tucker. Also she appear on the 1881 Census with the 3 children as Sarah Jane Tucker (Widow). GW Tucker's birth certificate lists Sarah Jane Tucker (Formerly Rowden), and William Tucker as the father. Later children of WH Ramsey and Sarah Jane also list Rowden as the maiden name. Sarah Jane Rowden and William Tucker are a complete dead-end for me. I cannot find marriage information, etc. So any help gratefully received. P.S. There are a Sarah Jane and William Tucker on the 1871 Census, with William from Stratton, Wilts. I am a descendant of the pilgrim John Howland through Thomas Rowdon. Look up the first US postage stamp engravers and you will find my Rowdon ancestors. Bosworth is the link from Hannah Howland.

Philip Rowden married in Livingston, NJ in 1856 and had a son (William H. Rowden) born in 1857. By 1860 he and his 1st wife, Sarah Amanda Dickerson (Dickenson) ? , were living in Edwardsburg, Cass County, Michigan. Sarah died on 20 Jan 1861, and she is buried in SILVERBROOK CEM. - OLD, NILE TWP., BERRIEN CO., MICHIGAN. By 1862 Philip Rowden was a Baptist minister and he remarried on 14 May 1862 in nearby Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana, to Mary Knapp, born in Pennsylvania about 1835. Records show they were married by Rev. Loyal A. Alford, the uncle of Mary Knapp. By 1863 Philip Rowden was living across the Michigan border where he registered for the draft in Burr Oak, MI in July 1863 and was commissioned in the US Army's 1st Michigan Infantry as a Chaplain in Aug. 1863. He mustered out on 29 Sep 1864 at Weldon Railroad, VA.

I continue to research the family of Reverend Dr. Philip Rowden, (born abt 1929 in England). He immigrated as a child with his family to United States in 1834. My wife's Rowden family is descended from Philip Rowden and his youngest child Frederick Rowden and wife Bessie Emeline Clark. Philip went from Newark, NJ to Elkhart,IN > Bronson, MI > Miami County, IN > Rochester, Indiana.

Hi I'd like to see the Rowdon tree and gain more info on my mother's family. Her name is Eiizabeth Jane Rowdon and was born in 1916 Norwood, PA. She was the youngest child and her parents died before I was born. My mother moved to Allentown, PA so I never met all her brothers and her one sister. There was Mary, Ernest, Mathew, James. I'd like to know more about the family. I do know that a family member has many updates on the family as a tree. Seeking info on Major PERCY ROWDEN. He served in the Army Service Corps pre WWI, during WWI and stayed in the Royal Army Service Corps after the war. By 1936 he was a senior NCO (WO CL1) when he was commissioned as a Lieut. During WWII he was promoted to Captain then Major. Acting Lieut-Col when he retired in 1948. Any info appreciated.

Hi. I am a member of the Heard family who migrated from Bow, Devon to Bermondsey in the 1850's. We have several Rowdon connections. I believe that my Heards go back to Newton St Cyres, due to the unusual name of Andrew Heard, migrating towards Bow around 1700, some via Crediton, but have so far been unable to prove this. I have found a marriage of Robert Heard to Mary Rowdon on the 19th April 1789 at Newton St Cyres The only Mary I can find is Mary 1758 of Thorverton, just over 4 miles from Newton St Cyres. Hi According to my Grandfather's birth certificate (1890) his mother was Louise (Louisa?)Lawrence nee Rowden. His father was William Lawrence, an electro type printer born in 1854. I have not been able to find a record of their marriage. In the 1991 census William is living with his son (my grandfather) age 1 with a family called Linham and he is described as a widower. My Rowden links go back to Joel Rowden from Steeple Langford in the 1600s. Wiltshire record office has many Rowden wills that go back even further. Some are available online. The family were yeoman farmers and seemed to own large parcels of land to the west of Salisbury. Several diverse locations are mentioned in two of the wills. Sheep farming hit hard times which is why the family migrated to neighbouring towns. Sarah Rowden, born 1700 married John Cooper in Warminster in 1719 and that is my line. Sarah had a sister who married John Cooper's brother. The Coopers were also natives of the Langford villages but i haven't managed to take them back earlier. Unfortunately the parish records for Little Langford were lost/destroyed before 1700. There is still plenty more out there to unearth.

It was a great surprise and a thrill to find this site. I am trying to trace any familly connected with a Muriel Rowden who gave birth to my mother, née May Rowden, at Wellington, NZ on 7 May 1905. This was an illegitimate birth and the birth certificate gives the mother's name but not the father's. My mother, a school teacher, married my father, Alfred Henry Lloyd, a farmer of Manaia, Taranaki in 1932 and had four children of whom I am the eldest. My mother died in 1945. I and my siblings would be very keen to hear from any relative of Muriel. I presume she was a New Zealander but I suppose it was possible that she was Australian and came to NZ for the birth.

His children to his second wife, Ellen Weldrick are as follows: George (1887-1963-my grandfather), Ellen Gertrude (b.1890), Elizabeth (b.1892), Mary Anne (1894-1960 m. Henry Booth), Richard Weldrick (1896-1969, m.Florence Walton), Robert (1898-1970, m.Daisy Johnson). My grandfather and all his family immigrated to NZ in 1959-60. Hi, well i never expected so many rowdens , i have never come across any other than family , my farther james henry son of frederick nippard (1876-1934) has always lived in the east side of london ,like his farther before him , frederick was a boss lighterman on the river , a lighter man had the job of rowing barges up and down the river , they were skilled men knowing the ebb and flow to use the power of the river to move goods , the rest of his sons i think all worked in or around the docks as my dad was a steveadoor , not just a docker ,steverdoors worked on the ships dockers worked on the dockside, i would love to know where nippard came from as by the look of it its not a family name and where did the farther william rowden?(1801-1858) come from before horningsham.?

Hello. My ex-wife said that she had visited this site and told me of it. You may remember that she told you that the family had originated in the area of Kingston upon Thames. If any further information, limited as it is,is of use to you then please e-mail me as above. I have visited the hamlet of Rowden near Bromyard, Worcs. The local history of the area shows that a John Townley de Rowden owned the Manor Of Rowden from c1321. This passed down the family until 1721 when the last and female of the line passed the Manor to Daughter Anne Barnaby (1665 - 1772). Still in the area are Rowden Manor, Rowden Mill and Rowden Abbey. A beautifully preserved G.W.R railway Station, complete with tracks, Rowden Mill Station, is now a private dwelling. Locally, Rowden means a rough hill.

Roy Thoams (Canton, Ont 1924-1944 kilied in Caen France during Caen Invasion), Ruth Evelyn ( Canton Ont. 1925- ),Percy William ( Canton Ont, 1927- 1997 Peterborough), my father John Robert (Port Hope 1933- 2001, Peterborough), Kenneth James (Port Hope 1938- ) and Margaret Joan ( Port Hope 1940- ). John Robert married Jean Grace Hill July 18 1953 at Peterborough. They have tthree children myself, Darrell Robert (Peterboroough Aug 4 1958), my sister Brenda Jean (Peterborough, Dec 6 1961) and a brother Bryan Thomas (Peterborough, Dec 7 1963). Bryan married Natalie Ruth Ewing Oct 3 1992 in Peterborough. My grandmother was a Rowden. I have followed my genealogy back to John Rowden born 1700, and died in the Atlantic Ocean in a shipwreck. He was a member of the British Merchant Marines. How can I locate him in England? I believe his son, John Rowden Jr. was born in Kent in 1737. He then brought his family to Virginia. Are there Marine logs that would contain information about the shipwreck, or at least about John Rowden Sr. participation in the the Merchant Marines?

Thank you for all the work. I have information on the descendants of Susannah Rowden (1798-1885) my direct ancestor. There are several gravestones including Richard Rowden and his wife Susannah at Chilmark Parish Church and a book containing the memorial inscriptions.

Dear Family Rowden, I am currently writing a script for a movie based around the story of a notorious band of criminals and highwaymen known as 'The Essex Gang' that terrorised London's suburbs in the early 18th century. It is an incredible story of early organised crime and one of the central figures in the story, and one who escaped capture for a long time was Thomas Rowden. He was eventually apprehended, sentenced to hang and then reprieved and deported to America. He will have arrived in Virginia in the fall of 1738. Does anyone know what might have happened to him after that? Was he the Thomas Rowden who then settled in Philadelphia? If anyone can help I would be grateful. Sincerely M Crook.
